A sustainable economy, a sustainable environment
|
Phase 1: Clean the river. Bring more people out on boats, cleaning up decades worth of mess.
Phase 2: Re-develop buildings in the area immediately surrounding the river.
Phase 3: Make the Central Connecticut River Valley an eco-tourism hotspot. The region is rich with potential of this sort; it has a diverse ecology and great beauty. A river center with a museum, library and Discovery Center would draw visitors and create jobs.
In addition to aiding the local economy, the river center and all that surrounds it would be a valuable tool of environmental education. Our natural environment provides what we need to survive; we only need to be educated in how to use it wisely.
How much is the river worth? Friends of the River says: more than most of us can even imagine. It is the time here and now to actualize that wealth.

This is a picture of the building we will be fixing up to use as a boat workshop. |
